What Every Coach Needs Pitchside

Whilst many players are busy preparing for the start of the new season in the Northern Hemisphere, it's also time for coaches and managers to make sure they are ready for the season start!

Managers and coaches understandably have plenty on their schedule in the run-up to the new season, so here are some top tips to make sure you don't forgot any key requirements!

Accessible Emergency Contact Details/Medical Information

Player safety and wellbeing is at the heart of all sports. Make sure you are aware if player's have any medical conditions before a training session or match begins. With an app like teamo, you can access player's Emergency Contact Details and Medical Details in your pocket! This means you can get hold of player's emergency contact in a tap if needed (hopefully not!).

Make sure your first aid kit is well stocked ahead of the new season. Take a look at England Rugby's Rugbysafe Essential Guide to find out what your first aid kit should contain.

Equipment & Materials

Prepare and organise all relevant equipment you need for your session or match! Sportplan allows you to plan and organise your drills in advance and includes a section for Equipment/Resources to make sure nothing is forgotten (take a look at Rugby Coaching Drills to create rugby specific plans).
On game day, remember your tactic board, warm up equipment (including speakers!) and a whistle just incase the referee or umpire doesn't show! If using video analysis, make sure the camera batteries are charged and there is enough memory to record your full game.

Rules & Regulations

Make sure you review your League rules and regulations, paying specific attention to those that are new or have been changed for the new season. Have a copy of the rules either on your Smartphone or a paper copy in case there are any disputes! If in doubt about any of the rules or regulations, get in touch with the League Committee before the season starts.

Enthusiasm

Last but not least- ENJOY! Show enjoyment for the sport that you love and expect the team to follow in the same manner! It's infectious - your players will feed off your enthusiasm and positivity! This doesn't just have to be at a game or match: send a supportive message the morning of game day; be keen try out new drills (checkout Sportplan for ideas); lead by example and your players will follow!

GOOD LUCK
