6 Tips to Make the Most of the Off-season

1. Keep going until the final whistle

As the season finishes up, every point counts, as does goal difference. When it comes to league positions, a lot can change in the final weeks so make sure your team gives it their all and finishes the season on a high!

2. Celebrate your success

You've worked hard all season so reward yourselves! Organise a fun team activity to mark the end of the season - this could be an end of season meal, a team outing to a professional sports game or an evening in the pub! End of season activities provide the perfect opportunity to distribute awards. Along with the usual Player of the Year, Most Improved Player etc., come up with some funny awards to give to each player! It's a great way to look back on all the fun you've had throughout the season and stirs up the excitement for next season.

3. Reflect on your season and set goals for next

Maybe your team goal was to finish in the top half of the league, or to only concede a certain number of goals. Whatever your targets, make sure you reflect on them and use this to set your goals for next season. Trust me, when it comes to the start of the season, you will barely remember the previous season's goals so it's best to set your objectives for next season now. You can always review them before the 2018/2019 season start. Have a think about some your club's successes off the pitch too - such as charity events or volunteer success!

4. Stay in shape

During the off-season, it can be hard to stay motivated to keep fit. Take a look at Sportplan's agility drills for some pre-season fitness inspiration! You can share this with your players and also organise a couple of team fitness sessions throughout the break so they don't feel like they're going it alone!

5. Mix it up

Just because the matches are coming to an end, doesn't mean the fun has to stop. Use teamo, the team management app, to stay in touch with your team. It's not so easy to keep track of player availability when you don't see them on a regular basis so an app like teamo is great during the off-season. Mix it up and organise some different sports- this means your players will return refreshed for the new season beginning. Organise a weekly activity at the local park and mix up the sport each week - rounders, touch rugby, ultimate frisbee are just a few you could give a go!

6. Organise a pre-season tour

Get your team excited for the new season and organise a pre-season tour! Set the dates early to ensure maximum availability as people are often away on holiday or busy during the summer months so plan ahead. If you struggling to organise a tour, get in touch with some local teams and arrange some friendly matches. Your players will be thankful for this when the season starts as match fitness isn't really achieved until players have a few competitive matches under their belt!
